Supporting STISA 2034: SGCI Multilateral Research Call to Advance Africa’s Science, Technology and Innovation Priorities

 

The National Council for Science and Technology (NCST) is pleased to announce a new funding opportunity for Rwandan researchers and research institutions to participate in collaborative, multi-country research projects that will help address Africa’s most pressing development challenges through science, technology and innovation. This call provides an excellent opportunity to build regional partnerships, generate impactful research, and contribute to the implementation of Africa’s long-term development agenda.

Call for Expressions of Interest.

NCST invites researchers, universities, research institutions, innovators, and other eligible stakeholders in Rwanda to submit Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for the Supporting STISA 2034: SGCI Multilateral Research Call, launched under the Science Granting Councils Initiative (SGCI).

This call supports collaborative, multi-country research projects that contribute to the implementation of the Science, Technology and Innovation Strategy for Africa 2034 (STISA-2034), the African Union’s continental framework for harnessing science, technology and innovation to accelerate sustainable socio-economic development across Africa.

Priority Research Areas

Applicants from Rwanda are invited to submit research proposals under one of the following five thematic areas: Health, Agriculture, Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technologies, Energy and Environment.

The call aims to support high-quality, impactful research that addresses Africa’s development priorities, strengthens regional scientific collaboration, promotes innovation, and enhances the translation of research into policy and practical solutions.

  • Call Launch: 3 July 2026
  • Information Webinars: 23 July 2026 and 13 August 2026
  • Deadline for Submission of Expressions of Interest: 25 September 2026 (23:59 EDT)
