International Day of Women and Girls in Science, 11th February 2022

The National Council for Science and Technology (NCST) in collaboration with the Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion (MIGEPROF), Rwanda Association for Women in Science and Engineering (RAWISE), the Rwanda National Commission for UNESCO (CNRU), and other stakeholders will join the rest of the world to celebrate “International Day of Women and Girls in Science” on 11th February 2022.

This event will be commemorated live on RTV by awarding four (4) Women in Rwanda for their demonstrated commitment to advance science in the society. This is a demonstration of commitment by the Government of Rwanda to promote and advance science in society, and specifically supporting women and girls to advance their achievements in science. The goal of this day is an opportunity to demonstrate the commitment of Government of Rwanda to promote full and equal access to participation in Science for women and girls. Gender equality is a global priority for Rwanda, and the support of young girls, their education and their full ability to make their ideas heard are levers for development and peace.

The awarding ceremony will be presided over by Hon. Prof. Jeannette Bayisenge, the Minister of Gender and Family Promotion to commemorate the Women in Science Awardsachievements. Five (5) Panelists of which 3 are the women awardees of 2021 will be in Rwanda Broadcasting Agency (RBA) Television Studio at 4:00-5:00 pm to discuss the theme “The role of Women and Girls in science and their implication in the prevention of COVID-19 pandemic”.

Invitees women scientists will follow live streaming using RBA studio platforms, and the 4 winners will be announced.

Guidelines by the Government of Rwanda through the Ministry of Health to prevent the spread of COVID-19 pandemic will be observed.
