VIRTUAL WORKSHOP TO VALIDATE RESULTS OF THE ASSESSMENT OF THE STATE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION (STI) IN RWANDA SCHEDULES

The National Council for Science and Technology (NCST) Management would like to invite its esteemed partners to the Virtual Workshop to validate results of the state of science and technology and innovation (STI) in Rwanda Schedules, to take place on August 10th 2021from 9:00 to 11:00 AM.

The objective of the validation workshop is to deliberate on the findings of the report of the STI status in Rwanda. In Particular, the workshop aims at presenting the objectives, methodology and findings of the survey; to obtain comments from participants; and to formulare relevant recommendations.

Results Framework for Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Research Grant Quarterly Report.

The Government of Rwanda is committed to support funding to develop Research and Experimental Development (R&D) and Innovation through National Research and Innovation Fund (NRIF) to transform the socio-economic landscape of the country.

The NRIF implementation for each project emphasises robust “Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E)” that is result-based management, and focuses on tracking results and how the research grant project feed into the achievement of overall project goals. The progress report includes information on key achievements, challenges, lessons learnt and guide way forward for future project fund disbursement.

Each project report is expected to be submitted not later than 15 days after 3-months/ Quarterly Period. Reporting will be specified for each Grant based on initial disbursement of funds.

ANALYSIS REPORT 2015-2016 RWANDA NATIONAL SURVEY OF RESEARCH AND EXPERIMENTAL DEVELOPMENT

The Government of Rwanda through the National Council for Science and Technology (NCST) conducted a National Research & Experimental Development Survey (R&D) Survey for the reference period 2015 -2016. The Survey used guidelines that are embodied in the new edition of the Frascati Manual (2015).The statistical indicators, focussed on government, higher education, private non-profit sector, and private business sectors.

The following are the Survey key findings:

  • The total funds totaled to RWF 60,629,842,449.
  • Gross Domestic Expenditure on R&D (GERD) is 44, 457,113, 816 FRW which equates to 0.66% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2016
  • Headcount: the Survey established that Rwanda had 722 R&D personnel.
  • Total R&D output in the period 2015 – 2016 was 6630 distributed across areas of specialization and categories of publication.
  • Collaboration: More national partnerships in research than foreign research partnerships. National partnerships accounted for 58.33% of total collaborations
